Nestling in the Pennington precinct, no more than an easy hour's drive southwards from Durban,

lies Umdoni Park, part of the historically fascinating and ecologically important Umdoni Park Trust.

Umdoni Park consists of 210 hectares of Kwazulu Natal’s Southern countryside

and derives its name from the water-loving Umdoni trees scattered throughout the estate.

 

Umdoni Park was established by Sir Frank Reynolds and presented to the nation in 1920 to preserve the indigenous fauna and flora and the Umdoni Park Trust was formed.

Today, the Park offers wonderful walking trails, excellent birding and the Komba Bird Sanctuary and Nkumbane Dam, which are perfect for appreciating the profusion of fauna to be enjoyed in this part of the world. And if you are into indigenous plants, take a stroll through the local Indigenous Nursery to see the beautiful plants and birds native to South Africa. The Trust works in close association with the Pennington Conservancy with regard to matters of conservation.

Umdoni Park is also home to one of the most spectacular golf courses in South Africa, renowned for its natural beauty, wildlife, spectacular views and challenging terrain.

The Trust also has self contained, self catering accomodation available within the park. There are also close associations with Botha house within the trust grounds and Lynton Hall which is adjacent to the Trust.
