About the Club....
Established in 1922 the Durban Country Club boasts a proud history. Renowned for its classic Cape Dutch gabled Clubhouse and beautiful setting overlooking the Indian Ocean, the Club has been the venue of choice for many an important celebration in its rich history.
Towards the end of the First World War, pressure mounted for the establishment of a second golf course in Durban due to repeated flooding problems facing the Durban Golf Club (now Royal Durban). George Waterman accepted the challenge of building the course and was assisted by fellow professional golfer Laurie Waters - a four times winner of the South African Open.
Durban Country Club was officially opened on 9 December 1922. The members were so delighted with the magnificent course that they donated a golf trophy in Waterman's honor. The Waterman Cup, played over 36 holes, was first competed for in 1924 and has been proudly hosted annually ever since. With Durban’s golden mile beachfront on our doorstep, the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium as a neighbor and the city centre a mere stone’s throw away the Club is an excellent choice of location when convenience and accessibility matter most. Our variety of venues combined with the skill and dedication of our banqueting team ensures that our clienteles every need is met when planning corporate or private functions.
Durban Country Club is a landmark on the Durban beachfront. Situated within a short drive from the Durban city centre, the Club has provided a welcome retreat for local residents and visitors since 1922 celebrated its 90th anniversary last year.
Set on the edge of the Indian Ocean, upon rolling sand dunes overlooking the Blue Lagoon estuary and surrounded by tropical vegetation, the Durban Country Club golf course is one of the most unique and challenging in the world. It is rated in the Top 100 Golf Courses of the World by Golf Magazine USA and is ranked 10th on the Golf Digest Top 100 for 2014. The course's signature hole is rated best 3rd hole in the world. The 468m, par 5 requires players to hit their tee shot from the highest point on the course, into a valley below, exposing their drive to the Indian Ocean gusts.
Home to one of the top one hundred golf courses in the world and host to the Volvo Golf Champions in 2013 and 2014, Volvo being one of the world's leading companies with hallmarks that include innovation and first-class quality, reflecting both of these strong attributes, the Volvo Golf Champions Tournament was launched in 2011 as the first ever tournament of champions on the European Tour.
Also Durban country club was the host of 17 South African SA Open championships, including the centenary SA Open in 2010. It has also been host to the World Golf Amateur Championship, and most recently in 2014 & 2015 the World club Pro Am Tournament.
The club has recently partnered with the ‘Logical golf lab’ facilitated by former tour professional and TV personality Don Gammon. At the golf practice facility, golfers can experience the full swing simulator, a state of the art swing gym as well as make use of the outdoor practice area consisting of a chipping green and driving range
